Eastern Freight Ways is looking for NEW DRIVERS!

Myron P. Shevell
Chairman & CEO

Myron P. (Mike) Shevell is Chairman and CEO of New England Motor Freight, Inc. He is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the company.

Mr. Shevell is also chairman of The Shevell Group of Companies. This entity encompasses real estate, trucking and logistics companies, which include: Carrier Logistics, Eastern Freight Ways, Phoenix Motor Express, Apex Transportation, JANS, New England World Transport and NEMF of Canada.

Mr. Shevell's fascination with the trucking business began in childhood, and by age 13 he was making pickups and deliveries in and around his native Perth Amboy (NJ) for his family’s trucking company.

He entered the executive ranks of the industry in 1953 as vice president of Apex Express in Perth Amboy, a family-owned business. In 1958, he became president of Royal Motor Lines, another family business in Perth Amboy. He remained in that position until 1963, when the company merged with Eastern Freight Ways.

Mr. Shevell served as Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of Eastern, a publicly held company located in Carlstadt (NJ). Mr. Shevell and his brother, Daniel, ran the company and, in an eight year span, increased its gross revenues from $6 million to $50 million and its net worth from $1 million to $9 million.

In 1974, Eastern received a grant of temporary authority to manage Associated Transport and to assume permanent control one year later. Mr. Shevell was elected president and chief executive officer of both companies. In 1976, beset by the financial difficulties inherited with the acquisition of Associated, the companies entered bankruptcy and requested to be dissolved.

Mr. Shevell then bought New England Motor Freight, a troubled Northeast regional less-than-truckload (LTL) carrier, from Farmland Dairies. Under his leadership, the company has grown from 55 units and five terminals to more than 4,000 pieces of equipment and 30 terminals throughout the Northeast and is now the region's fastest-growing family-owned LTL carrier. NEMF also boasts terminals in Florida, Puerto Rico and Canada and reaches 80 percent of the U.S. population through service partnerships.

Mr. Shevell received an associate's degree from George Washington University and a bachelor's degree from New York University. He also attended the Academy of Advanced Traffic.

Mr. Shevell was named 1999 Master Entrepreneur in the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Awards. The Master Entrepreneur designation recognizes an individual who has maintained management excellence over a sustained period of time. It is one of the most prestigious awards that can be given to an independent business owner in the United States.

Mr. Shevell is chairman of the New Jersey Motor Truck Association and vice chairman of the board of directors of New Jersey Transit. He is a regional director of the Bank of New York, N.A. He is also a member of the National Defense Executive Reserve of the U.S. Department of Transportation, the Traffic Club of North Jersey and the Raritan Traffic Club.
